Did you know that in Shibuya JR Station, there is a famous meeting place? The famous meeting place in Shibuya is Bronze Dog Statue, alot of people would arrange to meet near to this Statue.
This Second Statue was erected in August 1948, the first statue was erected in April 1934. So you may wonder why would Japanese want to erect this Dog Statue? Well, there is a touching (real) story behind this Dog Statue. The Statue is a rememberance of Hachikō ハチ公 , an Akita Dog for his loyalty to his owner and even after his owner's death.
When his owner was still alive, every evening the dog Hachikō ハチ公 would wait for his return at Shibuya Station. But one day his owner died at his workplace and failed to return to Shibuya station , Hachikō ハチ公 did not know that his owner had died, continued to wait for his owner to return. Hachikō ハチ公 died on 8 March 1935, after he had waited for almost 10 years for his owner to return!
Every year on 8 April, there will be a ceremony to mark Hachikō ハチ公 loyalty. Do pay this faithful dog a visit if you happen to visit Shibuya.
Is easy to find the Dog Statue, all you have to do is find the Hachiko Entrance / Exit at JR station.
